Defeating 2020 - Young Leaders

Writer's picture: Scaladale CentreScaladale Centre

2020 was a wonky year for everyone. With restrictions postponing events and canceling projects across the world, it feels like the year never got going. Which makes it so much more inspiring and impressive that our Young Leaders have managed to achieve so much in a time of lockdowns and isolation.

I have been nothing but impressed with the level of committment and drive our young people have shown to learn and further develop their skills, from assisting on actitvities to leading and coaching with their peers. "It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends." - The same is true for teaching and coaching. It can be hard to stand before of a group and show confidence in what you're delivering, but it's a great challenge if that group are your friends.

Through some incredible planning and organisation the team have managed to get through their first aid training, Go Paddling Paddle Start and Paddle Discover awards (along with the foundation safety and rescue training), and some coasteering training to top all that off. Next up, we have some Mountain Skills trianing and we hope as things start to ease up and the world begins to settle, we can continue to keep up this momentum and smash 2021.
